For those that are a bit suspicious of the health effects of aluminum pots, or who are looking for something a little more stylish than the traditional octagonal stovetop espresso maker, here is a really good alternative. It is modern and stylish, it is made from heavy duty stainless steel, and it has a 25 year guarantee (wow!!). Not strictly an espresso maker (the coffee is not brewed under pressure), this coffee maker still brews a potent, full bodied brew that is hard to beat.
The coffee maker has a six cup capacity (you can also get a 10 cup version), and comes with an extra gasket and reducer. The reducer allows you to make a 3-cup brew. It has a steel handle, so there is no danger of plastic melting or getting burned when used on a gas flame, although users have reported that a flame tamer is useful (or use a pot holder). The pot has an induction base, and has ‘really substantial construction’.
A note of warning: almost all customers rave about this unique coffee pot, but a few have found that the reducer assembly is not as strong as would be expected. Most of this dissatisfaction came from assembly instructions, which were not clear enough. This resulted in incorrect construction and resulatant breakages, and weaker coffee (the assembly leaks). Therefore, be careful with assembling the inner workings, and look at the Cuisinox website if you are not sure or have not used a pot like this before.
Use a medium grind coffee, and be careful to not boil the coffee. Done correctly, this coffee maker will produce excellent coffee for a lifetime, and will remain stylish and clean for the whole time that you own it.
